Best deal in Hanoi

Outrageous. The walk-up price we paid for a fourth-floor double was $10/night DURING TET! The room was HUGE, the bed was comfy, the cable TV always worked, and the bathroom was also the biggest we had in Hanoi. The windows were too high to offer a view, but worked to circulate air without letting in noise from the street. The room also included both A/C and a fan. Linens were changed every two days or so. The hotel is just a short walk from Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter. The owner spoke great English and was very, very friendly. His assistants’ English ranged from very good to poor, but everyone was very friendly.  The hotel supports a green environment which I really appreciate.

Basically just what we needed for our trip

A friend of ours booked us into this hotel so we didn’t actually choose it. Before arriving we were a bit worried as many reviews for this year had some bad reports so we were kind of expecting a bad experience. However we were pleasantly surprised as to how well it suited our needs.
We found the hotel more like a home than a hotel. The staff were friendly and NOT pushy at all regarding the excursions to Halong Bay etc. We just wanted to spend ten days in Hanoi and walk everywhere and they understood that.
The breakfast really suited our needs too. It was so nicely set out each morning and the lady cooking it became our friend or like an older sister cooking our eggs and coffee as we arrived so that they were freshly made each day. She also made the noodles on arrival as well if we wished. There were two nice dining tables in the hotel kitchen/dining room where she also cooked and the kitchen was very clean and not with lots of junk lying around as is often the case in other hotels in Vietnam.
The room we had was large and plenty of space to walk around the room. We also had a balcony which we sat out on frequently and watched the world go by. Yes the hotel is old but the quaint furniture, cabinets and chairs made and the shutters on the french doors of the balcony made you really feel like you were staying in the old quarter of Hanoi. Of course a room with windows will be noisier than one without but traffic almost ceases about 11pm and then starts again about 6.30 am. You can choose a room without windows if you want it quieter. Which were our sleeping ours anyway.

Plenty of hot water and even take a hot bath if you want.
Mr Sinh was very helpful and an extrovert and the young boy that worked with him was so friendly. The staff seemed more like a family working together than employees tolerating each other so that was great to see.
The only complaints we have would be that the hotel could invest in some softer pillows and maybe an extra one in the room. One of our sheets was torn also.
TV had a number of English channels. including HBO CCN BBC and Star Movies.
The hotel staff ordered taxis for us whenever we needed to and communicated with the taxi drivers of where we wanted to go.
A great deal for what we paid for and also I didn’t see a single insect or a rat as others had written. Which is unusual for Asia even in the cleanest place.
Aircon worked well and had a thermostat with remote control.
Mattress very comfortable
Excellent internet connection.
As soon as you walk out the door of the hotel you are in the midst of everything… a short walk to the lake. We would return here if we go back to Hanoi.

Great deal for a budget hotel.

During my trip in Vietnam, I spent a few nights in Hanoi and just happened to book this hotel via a local friend after a late fight. In comparison with another places that I were stayed in like Aranya hotel(which I reviewed recently), the room was a little bit less comfy but the prices was about 60% cheaper – and you got about 90% quality. Clean room, friendly staff – Especially Mr. Dai who helped my a lot during my stay, nice amenities (bed, AC … ) and a golden location – just a few minutes walking from Hoan Kiem Lake. Overall, great for budget traveler – or even everyone. Highly recommended. Stayed June 2014, traveled solo

A service that exceeds 5 Star.

Rather difficult locating this hotel if travelling into Hanoi via the airport as there seems to be multiple ‘royal’ hotels in different locations so please bear in mind that you’re looking for ‘Royal 1’ and print a map for any taxis is an absolute must to avoid the confusion.

Royal 1 is in a wonderful location in the old quarter with walking distance to the lake, old sector shopping and a short taxi ride to all the main tourist attractions. The staff are second to none and will organise your trips (ha long bay) and your transportation to your next destination without no extra costs and will also give you honest advice for booking said tours (best luxury boats/tours). They will go out of their way to help you and I found myself lost on the first day in Hanoi and after a short call from another hotel a motorcycle was sent to pick me up free of charge. On the day of our tour (3-4 hour bus ride for ha long bay) the owner insisted we ate before we left and gave us some of the finest Pho Hanoi has to offer! On our tour we took a day sack and the hotel safely stored our remaining luggage.

The rooms were clean and had everything you need for your stay in Hanoi with excellent value. They were going through some refurbishment work during our stay but we can only imagine to make this hotel even better (the noise did not disrupt sleep – they took customer into account and start work later in the day)

To summerize this family run business is second to none, the staff that run it have hearts of gold, in the heart of Hanoi and at fantastic value.
